Trip To Lennon Art Exhibition

Now listen closely and you shall read about the story of a "young girl's" dream come true.

It started way back in 1967.... I was a young girl of 12. I heard The Beatles for the very first time. It was summer time, and I heard this song called, "Strawberry Fields Forever". I knew that I had to hear more of this group called The Beatles!!

My older brother was very helpful. He too loved The Beatles and was glad to let me hear his earlier albums (which he still has). Throughout the following years my love for music grew because of the influence The Beatles had on all musicians. I was very angry because I wasn't old enough to travel to California for their last concert.

As I grew older, got married, and had kids, my love for The Beatles never died. That leads me to today. My dream has always been to be somewhere close to Lennon or The Beatles. I found The Beatles on IRC, and this is where I first heard about the Lennon Art Exhibition in Seattle, Washington. I decided to go!!! (to the protest of my hubby). I didn't have a clue where in Seattle it was, but I made some phone calls and found out.

When I got to Seattle, I got a hotel room. I had packed all my Beatle CD's with my portable CD player, and played them all night. Just that in itself was fun because I never get to do that. The next morning I took off in search of the Alexis Hotel, right in the heart of downtown Seattle. My hotel was a few miles away, and I was not use to driving in large cities.

When I got to the hotel, I was very nervous because I was afraid that I would cry seeing Lennon's work. My fears came true. My eyes misted when I walked into the gallery. The first thing I saw was a larger than life drawing of John and Yoko. You could feel the love from that picture, and I felt the loss of John.

As I walked around the room, I got a new perspective of John and how he saw life. I began to understand more about where the music came from. At one point I was so involved in a drawing that I didn't even know that I was being filmed. I stepped aside and excused myself. The gentleman said, "No, you are not in my way. I was filming the intensity of the look on your face".

He began to ask me where I was from and why I was there. I explained that I was from 200 miles southeast of Seattle and I was fulfilling a life long dream of seeing something of Lennon and The Beatles. He asked what was so special about John. I explained to him that years ago I heard this song and the voice which caught my heart. Then, as I grew older, I began to really listen to the words. John was a man who had passion in his music and I knew that he would have the same passion in his art. I am sure there was more that I said, but I was in a state of shock from both seeing John's work and from being filmed.

I went around that room at least three times always seeing something different in his drawings. I really loved seeing the first drafts of songs that became our favorites. One song, "In My Life", is my favorite.

The prices of these songs and others were out of my price range, but I was glad that I saw them. It gave another dimension to the music for me! The prices ranged from anywhere to $350.00 to $12,000.00 for the songs and prints. It was exciting to see people buying them.

I know that this may sound stupid, but I took each and everyone of you with me. I know that we all love them. Thanks for letting me tell my story.
